We are excited to announce that kid-grit has joined forces with the Afterschool Alliance in support of Lights On Afterschool, a celebration acknowledging the vital education programs that happen between the hours of 3 PM to 6 PM across America in over 10,000 communities nationwide.
Afterschool programs play a vital role in nurturing the growth and development of our youth, and we are pleased to share our FREE kid-grit activity to support student and staff physical and mental well-being. Download the activity sheet on the Lights On Afterschool website!
Over the last five years of kid-grit trainings and workshops across the nation, we’ve seen the significant impact afterschool programs have on the lives of children. On October 26th, we invite everyone in our network to shine a light on afterschool programs by participating in the #LightbulbChallenge!

It’s on! Lights On Afterschool is back for its 24th year — please join us in the nation’s only celebration of afterschool and out-of-school time programs! With 10 weeks until October 26, now is the perfect time to register and begin planning your event. Explore our planning guide to learn about this week’s planning tips.
Every year, Lights On Afterschool shines a spotlight on the importance of afterschool programs, with celebrations taking place at more than 8,000 events attended by 1 million Americans. It’s a great opportunity to bring members of your community into your program to showcase the important work afterschool programs do for kids and families!
This year marks the 25th anniversary of 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) programs. 21st CCLC programs have been providing millions of children and families with high-quality afterschool programming. To celebrate the anniversary, we’re featuring 21st CCLC programs as they participate in Lights On Afterschool to showcase their work. We have created a special “21st CCLC is 25” logo for our Art, Graphics, and Swag page — please share this logo on your promotional materials for Lights On Afterschool!
As always, we’ll be giving away great prizes from partners like STEMfinity and Torani as we get closer and closer to October 26, 2023.
